Sisters and Brothers of Local 426. This winter is on of the worst we've seen in quite a while; it's not over yet so continue to be careful. As you know we have a tentative contract with the carrier. When the question and answer part is finished we will get to see them and then our chance to vote on the contract. There is disagreement at the International level about the proposed merger with the Sheet metal Workers. Some are for it and some aren’t. Were this is going I don't know. We'll have to see how it shakes out. As you must know by now this is an election year. The democrats have always been good for the working women and men of this country. When you get your chance to vote remember to vote for your friends. More on this at a later date. Remember those old movies about big brother watching you. Well it is now true in the railroad industry. With the aid of recorded monitoring equipment and some not recorded devices our members are being penalized for their actions, and in some cases how their were perceived. So remember "They know if you've been sleeping, they know if your awake, they know if you've been bad or good so be good for goodness sake." Fraternally Your's Dean

President

Dear UTU Sister’s and Brother’s of Local 426 Today I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is you have about four months before the political ads begin, the bad news is we will have to endure ten months of character bashing for those that are running for public office. This summer we each received information from the International and a payroll deduction card. I urge each of you to consider giving what you can to this PAC. You may wonder were our PAC money goes. Fifty percent of our PAC contributions are returned to our state and distributed by our State Legislative Director. The other fifty percent are used by the International to promote our cause in Washington D.C. at the federal level. We have begun a new chapter in UTU history with the merger of our union with the Sheet Metal Workers Union. Our voices have been raised form 80,000 strong to an even stronger 280,000. We need your support at both the National and Local level. We will be taking nominations for Legislative this month and at the October meeting for our Local Legislative Representative. If any of you are interested please give this serious consideration. Thank you for your support and patients. Fraternally yours A.D. Seaboldt
